Department
of anesthesiology at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital
started with one anesthetist in the year 1978
and was going on for 7 years when in 1985 two
more anesthetists joined the department. Over
the years the work load kept on increasing which
necessitated employment of more anesthetists and
today we are six consultants catering to the need
of various surgical specialities except cardio
thoracic surgery which is taken care of by two
specially trained anesthesiologists.
We have 8 fully equipped OTs with all state of
the art design, monitoring facilities, anesthetic
equipments and pharmacy support with latest drugs
available. Under one roof we have facilites to
summon any specialist if need arises to manage
an emergency crisis.
We are accredited for Diplomate in National Board
and we already have 4 students. Regular classes,
seminars, tutorials, discussions especially problem
based case discussions - all go on with vigor
and enthusiasm. Our team members take care of
Intensive Care Unit of the hospital by turn.
We routinely do many complicated cases, surgery
on patients with various medical diseases (other
than the one for which the patient has come),
very many trauma cases involving multispeciality
like orthopedics, neurosurgery and plastic surgery
and sometimes dental surgery.
We cater for pain relief in labor. We have well
developed protocols and we already have a plan
for teaching and counseling antenatal patients
on this aspect. Pain relief and palliation for
terminally ill cancer patients are also undertaken.
We do quite a number of renal transplants in our
OTs and we have plans to commence liver transplantation
in future.

DR S VASISHTA, M.D., chief anesthesiologist
and HOD, dept of anesthesiology - undergraduation
at JIPMER, Pondicherry and postgraduation (M.D.)
at PGIMER , chandigarh both institutions of international
repute. Been in this dept for the past 28 years,
initially as freelance consultant and later as
an employee. Lot of interest in neuroanesthesia
, labor analgesia, critical care, and regional
anesthetic techniques. Very much interested in
teaching training students in anesthesiology.

a very famous institution and he has been in our
department for the past 21 years.

DR RAVISHANKAR, M.B.B.S, D.A.,
DNB is been with us for little more than 10 years
and is a graduate from Christian Medical College
Vellore. A well motivated intensive care specialist
he is very good in the OTs also.
DR Mrs SUNDARI RAMDOSS M.B.B.S.,
D.A. from Coimbatore Medical College Coimbatore,
is highly efficient and can handle different complicated
cases. She is well updated academically.
DR D VINODH M.B.,B.S., D.A. undergraduation
from Annamalai University and D.A from Belgaum
. Sincere, hard working and is able to handle
different types of cases in different surgical
specialities.
DR ARAVIND KARTHIK M.B.,B.S.,
D.A. from Kasturba Medical College Manipal is
a very brilliant anesthesiologist and has extremely
pleasing manners both inside and outside the OT
DR TIRUPATHI JYOTI SATYANARAYANA and
DR JAISREE RAGHUNATH are our
DNB students who have very positive attitude and
aptitude to learn and get trained in anesthesiology.
we do about 15 to 20 surgeries per day in various
surgical specialties on the regular list and about
3 – 5 emergency cases per day.
