The department of General Surgery was started in 1976 by Dr.B.KRISHNARAJ and has been functioning extremely well by dedicated and trained staff. The aim of the team is to provide very high quality and good surgical care. The team at present includes:

The surgical outpatient department caters to about 7500 to 8000 patients per year. The routine general surgical and other allied specialty cases are seen. 24 hours outpatient casualty department caters to the emergency cases of all the road traffic accident victims. Surgical department admits all the medico legal cases like burns and truma cases, and the Resident Medical Officer looks after the legal formalities.

 

The surgical work includes about 1500 upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopies per year. The number of surgeries performed will be around 1500 per year which includes both major and minor surgeries. This department being a referral one, around 40% of all major surgical cases fall into high risk category.

 

The academic program includes taking classes in general surgery for DNB trainees, III year BDS students, paramedical students of nursing, and physiotherapy colleges,. Clinical club, journal club, and tumor board meetings are being conducted regularly.
