The Coimbatore Dialysis & Kidney Transplantation Centre of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, was started in the year 1988. The centre has a state-of-the-art Dialysis Unit with specific provision for Hemodialysis, Peritoneal Dialysis and continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis. It was this centre that had a dialysis unit, adopting “Reverse Osmosis System” in Coimbatore for the first time. This was the first centre that was first authorised by the government to undertake kidney transplantation by obtaining the certification under Human Organs Transplantation act. The centre has 4 theatres for Kidney transplantation. The kidney post transplant ward has 20 beds and is well equipped with 24 hrs monitoring facility.
This is the only hospital in Tamilnadu to do two kidney transplants on the very first day of the inauguration of the transplant unit. This is the only hospital to do successively two kidney transplants in the same day in Coimbatore. Longest surviving kidney transplant patient (more than 13 years) only from Sri Ramakrishna Hospital in whole of Coimbatore. This is the first hospital to get Government permission to do kidney transplantation. This is the first hospital to get Government Approval for grant for transplantation from CM’s relief fund and PM’s fund.
