Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon
Center for Hip Resurfacing and Joint Replacement
Sri Ramakrishna Hospital

Management of Advanced Hip arthritis in young patients
is a challenging problem. In India, unlike western
world hip the problem is more common in young people
due to variety of causes. This ofcourse is a crippling
condition depriving most productive years of life
with the co-attendant grave financial social and psychological
implications. Conventional Total Hip Replacement does
not give satisfactory results and proved to be a failure
in young and active people.
Dr.
Dereck McMinn and Dr. Ronan Treacy at Birmingham United
kingdom managed to fine an effective and elegant solution
to this difficult and disabling problem. The hip resurfacing
concept which they have developed has presently transformed
the lives of many young arthritics worldwide.
This
treatment has reached India now and it is available
in Sri Ramakrishna Hospital Coimbatore. The regional
hip resurfacing center has been launched at Sri Ramakrishna
Hospital Coimbatore.

EXCELLENT PUBLISHED RESULTS
99.8% Survival rate upto 8 years follow up. Out of
440 BHR only one failure. The extremely low rate of
failure inspite of the resumption of high level occupational
and leisure activities provides evidence of the suitablility
of the Hip Resurfacing for young and active patients.
