GENERAL SURGERY

The Department of General Surgery was started in the year 1977 by Dr.B.Krishnaraj. This department is one of the major referral center for several complicated gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and trauma cases. This is a true general surgery unit catering to all varieties of cases from head to foot; both elective and emergency surgeries that are performed 24×7.

Emergency Surgery:

We have a 24 hours polytrauma care capable of managing all types of Road traffic accidents, Abdominal trauma is being treated round the clock and also other acute abdominal emergencies.

Head & Neck – Salivary gland, Thyroid, Neck swelling tracheostomy)

Gastro intestinal – AII stomach, small and large intestine surgeries

Hepatobiliary – Gallbladder stones, CBD stones, liver surgery

Pancreas – Benign , malignant lesions and for pancreatitis

Splenectomy – for trauma & elective indications

Ano Rectal – Piles, Fissure, Fistula, Perianal abscess by conventional or advanced methods.

Genitourinary – Nephrectomies, Bladder surgeries, Hydrocele, Varicocele, Orchidectomy, orchiopexy, circumcision, Penile lesions.

Vascular – Varicose Veins, Peripheral vascular disease, Amputations

Hernias – Inguinal hernia Umbilical Hernia,incisional Hernia and Ventral Hernias

Diabetic foot care – This unit is a very well renowned centre for care of the diabetic foot

Others – Pilonidal sinus, skin grafts, cosmetic surgeries

Outpatient and Day Care Procedures:

Laparoscopic Procedures – Cholecystectomy, Appendicectomy, Adhesiolysis, Diagnostic Lap.

Ovarian & uterine, and pelvic procedures.

Kidney Transplant Surgeries – Donor Nephrectomy Burns

ACADEMICS

• The department is recognized for training DNB candidates in General Surgery by the National Board of Examination, New Delhi. Three candidates are selected every year to undergo the course.
• Undergraduate & postgraduate students of the paramedical courses like Nursing, Physiotherapy and dental are being trained in the department.

ACHIEVEMENTS

• Dr.V.Sarveswaran was awarded the Best Doctor Award by the TamilNadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University, Chennai, in November 2012.
• Dr.V.Sarveswaran was awarded Vocational Excellence Award by Rotary Club of Coimbatore South, in November 2006.
