Plastic & Hand Surgery
The Department of Plastic Surgery at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital specialises in reconstructive surgery of the Hands and of Burn injuries. Our American Board fellowship-trained hand surgeon has immense experience at managing all hand conditions.
Our specialists have an extensive experience treating and rehabilitating burn injuries that affect in both physical and psychological levels. Our first aim is always to ensure functional recovery but we know that the aesthetics of the human body hugely impact our ability to function in society.
We provide a host of surgical and non-surgical solutions to patients who have been crippled by burns and trauma.
Our hands serve many purposes. Hands help us eat, dress, write, earn a living, create art and do many other activities. To accomplish these tasks and activities, our hands require sensation and movement, such as joint motion, tendon gliding and muscle contraction.
From our fingertips to a revolving joint as complex as our wrist, our hands are not only functional but always on display. Whether injured by accident or disease, our hands can become a great source of pain and sorrow.
When a problem takes place in the hand, care must be given to all the different types of tissues that make function of the hand possible. Hand surgery is the field of medicine that deals with problems of the hand, wrist and forearm. Hand surgeons are specifically trained to provide that care. Hand surgeons care for these problems without surgery where possibly, and are specially trained to operate when necessary.
Serious burns require emergency medical attention.
Burns are classified based on their depth. Superficial burns are treated conservatively with dressings. Deep burns require good clinical judgment to decide when such injuries need surgery. The total area of burn involvement and the part involved is critical in developing a plan of care. Deep burns require early skin grafting when available to prevent scars and their complications. If adequate donor areas are unavailable allografts or skin substitutes need to be considered.
Our team of Plastic Surgeons has extensive experience in treating burns and their complications and rehabilitation. Reconstructive surgery helps victims physically and emotionally. Rehabilitation plays an important role in getting the patient back to normal.

Treatments & Procedures
Our team of surgeons at the Department of Plastic Surgery has immense experience helping victims of severe burns. The scars can cause serious inhibitions to leading a normal life physically and also lead to deep psychological issues and depression. Reconstructive plastic surgery can greatly help victims both physically and emotionally.
Typically, the scarred tissue first needs to be removed before a skin graft is applied. Skin grafts are procedures where healthy skin is transplanted from one part of the body to the affected area. There may be multiple surgeries required depending on the severity of the injuries.
