Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research, part of Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, Coimbatore was the first comprehensive cancer center to be started in the Kongu region way back in 2002.With more than two decades of expertise in the field of Oncology. Our consultants have put all their efforts to deliver evidence based latest treatment to all our patients. Our departments include Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology. Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Plastic /Reconstructive Surgery and Oncopathology. Tie up with OMFS helps the MDS postgraduate students to get hands-on training on head and neck surgeries. Our facilities include two Radiation treatment machines [Elekta – Synergy / Infinity], PET CT scanning system, Iodine-131 scanning and treatment, Gamma camera. Sentinel lymph node mapping system, Brachytherapy unit, Frozen section facility.
The Department of Surgical Oncology has three full time consultants trained from the prestigious Cancer Institute (WIA) Adyar. We perform all major Surgical Oncology procedures. Few of our procedures include complex head and neck resections with micro vascular free flap reconstruction, Cytoreductive Surgery with Hyperthermic intra Peritoneal Chemotherapy. Limb Salvage Surgeries. Mediastinal Tumor Resection, Lung resections ,Gastrointestinal. Genitourinary, Gynaec-oncology procedures, Breast Surgeries, Musculoskeletal, Multi organ resections and Minimally invasive procedures.
Our residents also get trained in the diagnostic endoscopic procedures including Colonoscopy, UGI scopy, Laryngoscopy, Bronchoscopy and Nasopharyngoscopy. Endoscopic stenting is also done by the unit. We cater to all classes of patients and around one-third of our patients get treated by government health insurance scheme / NGO funding.
Lot of clinical material is available for publications and research work too. Weekly Multidisciplinary tumor board meetings are conducted to discuss the management protocol fbr needy patients. Full-fledged Oncopathology facilities which includes auto processing of tissue. delivering paraffin section histopathological reports in 24 hours, frozen section report in 30 minutes, in house immuno-histochemistry is also available
