The NBEMS Diploma in Pediatric program at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital is a 2-years postgraduate course offered to eligible post-MBBS candidates selected through NEET counseling.
The course is for a duration of 2 years and includes rotations through General Pediatric ward, Pediatric outpatient and vaccination clinics, pediatric and neonatal intensive care units, delivery & resuscitation. Postgraduates are also exposed to pediatric subspecialties like Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Cardiology & Cardiothoracic surgery,Pediatric surgery and Pediatric Oncology.
The Pediatric Departrnent at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital has a busy outpatient service where postgraduates get more than adequate exposure to various common pediatric problems and vaccinations. They can also gain expertise in neonatal resuscitation, common newborn problems, management of sick newborns in the NICU. The NICU is a 22-bed state of art NNF accredited facility and is a referral center the coimbatore and neighboring districts. The hospital has a 8 bed high end PICU with round the clock intensivist support where postgraduates learn pediatric critical care and emergency management. Postgraduates get hands on training in intubation, central line placements. ICD placements both in NICU and PICU.
The academic program is made to ensure that students learn the most important aspects of Pediatrics while stressing the importance of applied medicine. Students are encouraged to read latest research and the library in the hospital is stocked with good pediatric journals. They are also expected to do research and Quality Improvement projects though it is not mandatory for the program. There is a great emphasis on ethical medicine, empathy, family centered care and maintaining a high standard of clinical practice.
